DESIGN BY HARRY GUGGER STUDIO ARCHITECTS & IREDALE ARCHITECTURE

Vancouver’s first LEED Platinum heritage project

The original Stock EXchange Building is an iconic structure reflective of rich history and success, having since become one of Vancouver's largest and most exciting heritage restoration projects. A collaborative architectural masterpiece between Switzerland-based Harry Gugger Studio Architects and Vancouver-based Iredale Architecture, the building's Pinstripe Principle defines The EXchange Hotel with elegance.

The design of the building is symbolic of innovation, while kindly paying homage to the iconic style of the early twentieth-century. This can be clearly witnessed in the retained heritage listed gothic exterior, offering tribute to Medieval England with a modernist touch. the facade of this architecturally beautiful building has been retained, while the main building has been redeveloped into EXchange Hotel and EXchange Tower.

The original building facade has been painstakingly restored and retained on the exposures facing Howe Street and Pender Street, with the new curtain glass-walled EXchange Tower creatively constructed in 2017 through the middle of this heritage designated structure reaching new heights of over 350 feet. The pinstripes themselves are aluminum louvres – beginning at ground level of the new building and stretching skywards above the original Edwardian building, creating a seamless integration of the two structures. The new EXchange building will be Vancouver’s first LEED Platinum heritage conversion project, accompanied by highly efficient hydronic heating and cooling, integrated geo-EXchange thermal regulators, solar thermal panels, triple-glazed curtain wall envelope and solar shade louvres.

The EXchange Hotel's unique style can be found in each of its 202 rooms and suites of luxury, occupying the first 11 stories of the newly constructed 31 storey EXchange Tower. Each room offers an iconic composition of colors, textures and a rare collection of art and culture. With custom-made grey oak stained furniture, smoked glass, backlit mirrors, elegant brushed brass trim accents, rich herring bone patterned hardwood floors and a unique headboard wall art design, our rooms and suites are only outdone by the all-white marble bathrooms featuring inlaid marble mosaic tile patterns, heated floors and oversized walk in showers.
